HITTING THE ICE WITH PWHL NEW YORK

The new year ushered in a wave of powerful competitors, with the long overdue installment of the Professional Women’s Hockey League debuting across North America. We teamed up with the New York chapter of the PWHL, putting together energizing season premiere videos, in-game inserts, action shots, and player-by-player content to rally fans together.

It was a blast to hit the ice with these talented women and capture their strength for the screen. Utilizing tense action shots, contrasted motion, and fierce lighting our team at johnnypuetz Productions built a visual narrative to immerse spectators into the rink.

Hockey Highlight Video

With every project, especially those spotlighting talent in motion, it’s important that we recreate an authentic sense of what it feels like to be within a particular space, or in this case, on the ice. We linked up our suite of cameras to stabilizing gimbals and tracked players around the rink, creating the athlete experience from a first-person perspective.

Our team used creative lighting techniques to build a dramatic, heart-pounding scene for the athletes:

This footage is interspersed with sound design and iconic captures of New York, sure to intimidate with strong highlights of top players. We couldn’t be more proud of how this hockey highlight turned out. Take a look to get inspired by these top players:

Player Profiles and Social Content

At johnnypuetz Productions, we pride ourselves on hosting a team full of diverse skill sets, allowing us to capture multiple scenes at once. Whilst capturing scenes for the above highlight video, our team set to build lighting and greenscreen backdrops for in-game inserts and social content, highlighting the power of individual players.

We moved between four setups with six separate cameras to build an unforgettable fan experience. Working on the ice comes with a set of unique challenges, but our team banded together to execute with variable lighting, shooting an entire team within a matter of hours at UBS Arena.

Our media day with PWHL was certainly an exciting one. Fortunately, these athletes shine on camera effortlessly, and with the stunning final cuts, all that’s left to do is to cheer from the stands on game day.
