A DAY IN THE LIFE OF LEWIS HAMILTON WITH SAP

As Formula 1 racing fans, many ponder what it would be like to step in the shoes of some of F1’s brightest stars. When we caught wind that johnnypuetz Productions would have the honor of capturing Lewis Hamilton’s day-in-the-life on behalf of SAP, our entire team was delighted, to put it lightly.

Fortunately, our team has plenty of experience collaborating with high-profile talent, ranging from the likes of Sarah Jessica Parker to active Olympians, so we were well-equipped to capture around Lewis’ inevitably packed schedule.

Join us as we take you through the journey of our exciting shoot with Lewis, SAP, and the F1 team.

Cross-Country Collaboration

This production was stemmed from a collaboration between our team and U.K. partners, who trusted us to capture Lewis at the beautiful Ritz Carlton hotel in Manhattan. We worked together closely to develop a schedule that could accommodate both a seated interview and social campaign series all within a matter of hours to support the talent’s limited schedule.

Since time was of the essence, our crew set up all necessary lighting well in advance of the shoot so that we could easily move from one set up to the next over the course of a day:

A Seated Interview with the Speed Star

For the first portion of the shoot, we curated a seated interview with Lewis Hamilton, putting together a polished atmosphere with two camera angles and a teleprompter. Lewis took the task in stride, shining in front of the camera, making it easy for us to stay ahead of schedule.

The Ritz Carlton suite was a packed house with our crew, the U.K agency, SAP professionals, and the F1 team, but our meticulous audio capture ensured that Lewis’ statements came through crystal clear on our recording.

“A day in the life” Social Campaign

As a part of one of their social media campaigns, software company SAP challenged us to capture a typical day in the life of Lewis Hamilton, taking note of all of the SAP technology he encounters without realizing on a day-to-day basis.

For this segment, we mixed moving and static shots to capture the sense of stop and go which is especially relevant for someone who spends much of their waking hours on the race track. We followed Lewis throughout his routine, capturing his movement from when the alarm strikes, getting ready, and jamming to his favorite music on the way to work.

This mixture of shots made for a compelling clip which SAP has gone on to use across their official Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube:

Despite the ambitious schedule, we made it possible to wrap the day early capturing everything we needed and then some– prompting a direct, “Thank you!” from the star himself which we will never forget.

A huge thank you to Lewis Hamilton for lending us his time and to SAP for trusting us with this high-profile capture.
